I know it's illogical, but I have a very vague distrust of or unease around women with hyphenated last names. It's as if in my mind they're deputized members of the politically correct police, more attuned to political incorrectness or gender-sensitive faux pas than the average person (and certainly more so than me). Or that they are just unlikely to share my sense of humor, such that candid, comfortable conversation between us is unlikely. And on a basic level, I think that hyphenated last names are kind of silly. Why stop at just two, and what might the daughters of hyphenated last name moms do when it's their turn to marry? Adopt a double-hyphenated last name in their effort to sidestep patriarchy? And their children, and their children's children?
